The 15th Annual Webbys: Web Design, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video and Mobile & Apps
The 15th Annual Webby Awards are right around the corner, winners to be announced April 12th, 2011. The Webby Awards presents two honors in every category — The Webby Award and The People’s Voice Award — in each of its four entry types: Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video and Mobile & Apps.
The Webby Awards are by far the most prestigious web industry awards drawing numerous celebrities and influential entrepreneurs. Last years Webby Awards were hosted by BJ Novak of The Office. Watch last years opening speech.
The annual Awards were established in 1996 in the infancy of the web by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, currently comprised of 750 members including web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities, and Associate Members who are former Webby Award Winners and Nominees and other Internet professionals.
The International Academy is a diverse group that includes such members as musicians Beck and David Bowie, Internet inventor Vint Cerf, political columnist Arianna Huffington, Real Networks CEO Rob Glaser, “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening, R/GA Founder and Chairman Robert Greenberg, Virgin Atlantic Chairman and Founder Richard Branson, and The Weinstein Company Co-Founder Harvey Weinstein. Also included are writers and editors from such publications as The New York Times, Wired, Details, Fast Company, Elle, The Los Angeles Times, Vibe, and WallPaper. The 2010 Webby Awards received close to 10,000 entries from more than 60 countries and every state within the U.S. The awards generated over 750 million media impressions worldwide. That’s quite a buzz!
