Skybox Ink recently printed high gloss promotion fliers for the upcoming 2nd Annual San Diego Spirits Festival in beautiful downtown San Diego. The event runs from June 2-5, with the main event and “Grand Tasting” on Saturday at the Hilton Bayfront’s 4.3 acre waterfront park.

The finale features TASTINGS OF OVER 65 BRANDS OF SPIRITS, BARTENDER CHALLENGE, PAYNE MASON CIGARS, SILENT AUCTION, and a menagerie of entertainment including a live band and burlesque dancers with many more surprises for everyone to enjoy.

The premier event: The Dual Bartender/Chef challenge is on June 3 from 5-8pm at the US Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego.

Surrounded by the luxurious ambiance of Sé Hotel’s Sîren Uber Lounge, Skybox Ink, in association with Skybox Creative, held their second Green is the New Black Mixer on March 18^th, 2010 in Downtown San Diego. The night consisted of networking with eco-friendly professionals and entrepreneurs, a sponsored raffle prize giveaway, and numerous photo opportunities taken in front of our gorgeous blue Skybox Ink step and repeat banner (created by 858 Graphics).

Skybox Ink made our way to the PIAexpo 2010 at the San Diego Convention Center on February 25. The event boasted a wide variety of printing and related industries. It was a great place to check out the best new paper stocks, coating options and everything innovative happening in the printing industry. A huge theme echoed throughout the event was eco-friendly printing, and we were happy to spread the word about Skybox Ink’s use of green materials such as recycled stocks and soy/vegetable based inks.

Skybox had the chance to meet with Adam Hale of Blend, a well-branded printing company who prides themselves on exceptional digital printing. As we got to chatting about coating options and elaborate branded materials, Hale pointed us in the direction of Creative Coatings, a company in San Diego that specializes in unique coating treatments.

We also stopped by the Mohawk Fine Papers booth and picked up some of their latest samples, as well as In To Ink Letterpress, which had some truly beautiful invitations and envelopes. They describe their letterpress work as:

“having a look and a mystique that is not able to be replicated on an offset press. There is texture and dimensional feel to many letterpress projects. There is also the opportunity for the project to be more of a hands-on crafted piece. We strongly encourage any of our clients utilizing our letterpress department to be press side during the creation of their project. Skybox Creative participated in a Going Green to Save Some Green Business Seminar on November 13 hosted by NAWBO’s San Diego Chapter (National Association of Women Business Owners). The event, part of NAWBO’s seminar series, included a presentation by Christine McDannell, owner of Cleanology (green cleaning services) and Adopt A Christmas Tree, which is a program that offers alternative solutions to cutting down Christmas trees.

Many good tips were passed around by those attending, including using an eFax or a scanner to get around using excess paper, saving energy by using natural light when possible and bringing a lunch to avoid to-go waste. Other ideas that might take a little more extensive work included altering your business accounting practices: receiving and paying for bills electronically, and limiting paper waste by having all accounting files as electronic pdfs on a computer and back up drive.

Skybox Creative shared our green business – Skybox Ink – a fully-automated printing website that uses recycled stock, chlorine free paper and soy and vegetable inks for printed materials, but still upholds high-quality standards. Skybox Creative and Skybox Ink are also going to be hosting a Green Business Mixer on Thursday December 17, from 7 – 9pm at Se San Diego downtown. It will be an opportunity to connect eco-savvy businesses and those looking get involved in the green movement. It will also be the first in a quarterly series!
